After the knitting woes of last week, I have felt the need to focus on simple pleasures. The best thing about this time of year is the promise of spring flowers. Summer flowers are all well and good, but find myself worrying about them far too much in the garden: have they got enough/too much light/water etc. Spring flowers are altogether a more robust and hardy breed. I like that about them. Unlike summer blooms which seem to be quite picky about their environment, spring bulbs pop up in spite of the weather.
Here at The Hookery, the air is thick with the scent of hyacinth. I defy anyone to catch a whiff of hyacinth and not have their spirits lifted with thoughts of spring.
Meanwhile, in a quiet corner of the living room, a bunch of tulips are slowly bursting into colour
After all that Winter whiteness, a splash of yellow is just what's needed, don't you think?
